Gilchrist capped his last appearance at the WACA in Perth with a superb 118 but got little support from his team mates as Australia crumbled to be all out for 236.
Michael Clarke made 43 and Ricky Ponting and Mike Hussey chipped in with 25 each but none of the remaining seven batsmen made it to double figures.
Lasith Malinga was the standout bowler for the Sri Lankans, capturing four wickets for 47 runs with his unusual round-arm action, while Nuwan Kulasekera claimed two scalps.
Gilchrist announced last month he was retiring from international cricket after the tri-series but was determined to make a big impression in his last match at the WACA.
With his family watching from the stands, Gilchrist tore into Sri Lanka’s bowlers with a brutal but controlled display, hitting nine boundaries and three sixes.
He brought up his 16th one-day international hundred off 117 balls before eventually falling to Malinga while trying to increase the scoring rate.
Gilchrist’s departure triggered a batting collapse and the Australians lost their last six wickets for just 30 runs to be all out in the last over.

It is, actually. I think just about everyone knows that we aren’t being told the full truth about what happened that day. Though the media has been quick to paint anyone who questions the official story as unpatriotic, there are some very unsettling questions about 9/11. It is in the interest of every common person to have all of these questions answered so we can move on. If in fact the current story turns out to be true, let’s band together, and destroy the people that are actually a threat to us. Let’s not attack any country that looks at us wrong. If it turns out that some of the worst speculations about 9/11 are true, then we need to act quickly.
Folks, this is a good idea. It doesn’t matter whether “the nature of the 9/11 attacks is in question”. What matters is, as the original poster said: Without our freedom we have nothing.So how about we FORGET ABOUT 9/11 and focus on the fact that the U.S. government has made a radically wrong turn in the past few years. It is now ignoring the Constitution, subverting the rule of law, trampling on human rights both in the U.S. and elsewhere, and GETTING AWAY WITH IT.This needs to stop. These protests may be part of a way of stopping it.

Someone who thinks you’re a nutjob for even bringing it up does not want to spend more money on another investigation, and they don’t want to come out to support your protest if it means being associated with the 9/11 truth movement. The majority of the American public wants Bush and Cheney impeached. Make it about that and don’t keep people away by bringing 9/11 into the picture. You have to pick your battles, and you’ll have a better chance of winning this one if you leave 9/11 alone.
