Chuck Barney’s TV Picks for May 18-24
DON’T MISS: The “American Idol” finale — They hyped the heck out of this season, proclaiming it to be the greatest ever. Alas, it wasn’t. Too many dull personalities and too little musical versatility conspired to mar the proceedings. It didn’t help, either, that Paula’s loopy antics and the little tiffs between Simon and Ryan got old. Still, “Idol” remains prime time’s marquee attraction, and the “Idol” crown still carries a lot of clout in the music biz. This week, the final two contestants go toe-to-toe and then await America’s votes. Will the winner be the next Carrie Underwood “… or Taylor Hicks? 8 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday, Channels 2 and 40 (Fox).
TONIGHT: You would think Kenny Chesney has a great chance to take home some hardware from the 43rd annual Academy of Country Music Awards. The guy leads all comers with 12 nominations, including one for entertainer of the year. 7 p.m., Channel 13; 8 p.m., Channel 5 (CBS).
TONIGHT: Funnyman Carlos Mencia is back with a new stand-up special. Filmed in Hollywood, Fla., “Carlos Mencia: Performance Enhanced” is fortified with his irreverent takes on politics, race and culture. 9 p.m., Comedy Central.
MONDAY: They’re pumping up the intensity for the season finale of “Bones” as the Gormogon serial killer strikes again and a lab explosion leaves Zack severely
injured. Better take cover. 8 p.m., Channels 2 and 40 (Fox).
MONDAY: It’s time for a woman to call the shots as “The Bachelorette” returns for another go-around. DeAnna Pappas, a Georgia real estate agent spurned by Brad Womack on “The Bachelor,” gets her pick of 25 hunky hopefuls. 9:02 p.m., Channels 7 and 10 (ABC).
TUESDAY: The ballroom blitz is about to wind down on “Dancing With the Stars.” A pair of happy hoofers will take home that big, ugly disco-ball trophy. Yes, that’s what they get for enduring weeks of torturous workouts and hideous costumes. 8 p.m., Channels 7 and 10 (ABC).

Not in any particular lighting but I’ve gotten some extremely trippy “visuals” (they weren’t really visual, I was the object) with my eyes closed to go with the strange feelings. I was tiny and delicate and heavy and blocky in a series.I do get sleep paralysis though. I don’t have a problem sleeping anywhere, but boy does my subconscious. If I’m going to sleep in an unfamiliar setting consciously I’m perfectly fine but I get sleep paralysis a lot when I’m in strange places. You should google it. Basically you wake up, but only slightly. You’re eyes are open and you can move them, but that’s it. Everything else is frozen. At best I’m able to make gurgling noises (if I’m lucky). The worst thing of all: Because you aren’t awake, your mind still kind of dreams and it causes hallucinations. In particular you ‘feel’ a presence. Some people see someone/something. I once saw a shadow in the shape of a man but it’s mostly a sensation. The presence always feels hostile. Needless to say, paralysis combined with an irrational fear of a presence is disturbing. I can see why people believe in demons and alien abduction.

that’s called a Hypnagogic Hallucination. They occur right before sleep (hence the name)- a lot of people have them. The hallucination can be of any one of your senses, and your awareness of body proportions is indeed a sense.

More like out of your body.

    MOD ME!

I’ve heard about people having strokes after having neck work done by chiropractors, so I think I’ll pass.

“Well, there’s a delicate corneal inversion procedure… a multi-opti-pupil-optomy. But, in order to keep from damaging the eye sockets, they’ve got to go in through the rectum. Ain’t no man going to take that route with me!”

Maybe you just shouldn’t do that totally unnecessary motion. I think you’ll survive.(Also, I know people who do that. It’s called cracking your neck.)

I came to the comments because I was looking for people expressing similar conditions because I have experienced something a bit similar as well, although a tad different, and even different than what has been expressed by others in these comments; When I was young, when I would first lie in bed at night and close my eyes in the dark room to sleep, I would feel the sensation of LARGENESS and SMALLNESS, but not physically. This sensation was not about my body or parts of my body, but like in cognitive concept. The concept was SO large or small in size it would bring me extreme discomfort, as though it was too much to grasp, too overwhelming for me to even want to comprehend. I can only best describe it as ‘imagining a shape’ and I found it difficult though to take my mind off of it. I have mentioned it a few times to people even now as an adult, because I found the experience so unusual/prominent. At times I can still to this day sort of re-imagine the ‘concept’/sensation, and how it was when I was young, although now it’s not as clear to the point of being disturbing.

Arrested Development is hardly traditional television. It was ignored by viewers for the two and half seasons that it was on, but FOX kept it alive because it was so adored by critics and kept winning Emmys. Here’s a helpful link. At least grab the first two episodes and give it a shot.
