Coyotes responsible for K-9 casualties?
LEE COUNTY: Traps have been set after more possible coyote attacks against dogs in the Bonita Springs and Estero areas. The total is now at four attacks and three dogs are dead. We found some advice that can help keep your dog safe.
Monday night, Susan Love first thought what came out of some shrubs was just a big dog, something like a German shepherd. Now, she thinks what she saw was actually a coyote.
“I was screaming the whole time,” said Love.
Love was with her dog Keya and was actually dog sitting another named Millie.
“Keya went out to find the coyote. She went out to grab her neck and she backed up,” said Love.
“She was going to die for us - myself and the small dog,” said Love.
Officials with Florida Fish and Wildlife say when you are out walking your dog, make sure you carry a couple of things with you like a walking stick, a noise maker, and even a flash light. All of them can be used to help scare off a coyote.
“What’s unusual is this aggressiveness towards small dogs that are being walked by people,” said Gary Morse of FWC.
The attacks have been happening in and around Love’s Lighthouse Bay development. Now, there are warning signs around the development asking dog walkers to be alert.
“Be careful when you are out there. You should probably confine your walks to well lit areas and areas that don’t have any vegetation,” said Morse.
Morse says there are probably two coyotes in the woods - a mother and father trying to get food for their young. He says the close encounters could very well last another two to four weeks.
Until then, FWC will step up patrols and Love will be carrying something extra - a can of pepper spray.

Cornyn and Hutchinson are the very real faces of evil in American politics.I used to love Hutchinson. I’ve met her a couple of times throughout the years. I’ve contributed to her campaigns. But since the institution of the Bush Regime, she’s turned from being a pro-Texas, pro-America, hard working legislator with real passion… to a hardened, vile corporate shill in the worst degree.I love Texas; the wide open country, clean air, and family environment of small town Texas really appeals to me, and I couldn’t fathom living anywhere else. But the prospect of a Hutchinson governorship scares the streamin’ squits out of me. I might have to move…
Wow, Cornyn has some pretty shitty legislative correspondents.
That sounds like pretty much every letter I’ve gotten back from Kay Bailey Hutchison. I’m pretty sure she writes from a template reads, “Thank you for contacting me. I didn’t bother reading your thoughtful comments because, frankly, I’m going to do what I want anyway.”And why shouldn’t she? It seems to be working for her.
No kidding. Check out what he wrote to me: Thank you for contacting me with regard to the issue of retroactive immunity for telecommunications companies in S.2248, the FISA Amendments Act of 2007. I appreciate hearing from you. As you know, S.2248 falls under the jurisdiction of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, as well as the Senate Committee on the Judiciary. The Senate Intelligence Committee reported the bill with a retroactive immunity provision included, but the Senate Judiciary Committee’s version of S.2248 did not include this provision. These differences will likely be reconciled once S.2248 comes to the full Senate for consideration. I am committed to crafting a FISA bill in the Senate that gives intelligence officials the tools they need to vigorously combat the threat of terrorism while operating within the rule of law. Again, thank you for taking the time to share your views. Please rest assured I will keep them in mind should the Senate proceed to consideration of S.2248. Sincerely, Ken Salazar United States SenatorThis guy really needs to lose his seat to a candidate who will actually represent his constituency.
And if we had a record of their responses, we would also know how often the same letter is sent out, or how it changes over time.
Well I don’t know if that’s true, but I’m getting pretty sick of American freedom as it is right now.
That would be cool.
i live in texas.. i was speaking to a friend about voting.. he says ‘my vote doesn’t count.. i live in texas.. we have an electoral college, so texas is going red no matter who i vote for.. why should i vote?’ that’s just sad, but the saddest part is that he has a point.
Jan Schkowsky, I concur
Cornyn is great. Taht response made me feel comfy. Hes not gonna let anyone bug me. Why don’t you guys like him? I don’t even like the phone. Nevermind, i’m going back to ‘baitin.
Please forward Sen Corwyn a copy of the US Constitution. It is the President’s responsibility to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.not the nation per se. This is a point that seems to be missed often these days. Warrantless wiretapping attacks directly what should be protected, in the name of ‘protecting the people.’Whatever happened to ‘Give me liberty or give me death’? An honest question: which is more important, our principles or our safety?
There’s a fundamental problem with representative democracy when the representatives don’t actually represent the people but rather their own wallets. But it seems “the people” are just too apathetic to vote these con-artists out of their offices.
