Breaking down Game 2

A lot of people thought the Lakers missed their shot in Game 1, that the game was there for the taking.
Not true. Game 2 traditionally is the time when the team with the home-court advantage is most vulnerable. The Celtics had nearly a week to rest after three tough series to get out of the Eastern Conference. The Lakers, quite frankly, did not get pushed that hard by San Antonio in the West finals.
Bottom line: the Lakers have their best chance to take control of the Finals tonight. Paul Pierce’s injury will make him something less than 100 percent. And don’t underestimate the impact of Kendrick Perkins’ sprained ankle. His absence wasn’t felt in Game 1. But it will make life tougher on them the longer that Perkins is limited.
Another factor is Ray Allen. He was a force in the opener, but he has not had a great playoff run overall. Will he come back with a dull effort?
Still another issue is the rebounding that has nagged at the Lakers periodically throughout the playoffs. They were hammered on the boards in Game 1 and that is one statistic that almost always carries a lot of weight, particularly in the playoffs. That’s where Lamar Odom must assert himself. He had six rebounds in 39 minutes on Thursday. that won’t cut it.
Lastly, the Lakers have to do two more things better than they did in the opener. They must shoot the ball better from the perimeter. They were 3-of-14 from 3-point land. And the must defend the Celtics better, starting by not allowing 10 offensive rebounds.
If you’re looking for a prediction, take the Lakers. This is the game they have to get. Going home for three games in a 2-0 hole is asking for trouble because it’s asking a lot to sweep the middle three games.

Town 2, Walsall 0

DANNY SCHOFIELD earned a standing ovation after marking his last Town appearance at the Galpharm with a goal.
And Andy Booth celebrated his new one-year contract with a trademark header to set the seal on a convincing victory.
With new management team Stan Ternent and Ronnie Jepson watching from the directors’ box, Walsall were never really in it as Gerry Murphy’s charges chalked up a third straight win and fourth successive clean sheet under the caretaker boss.
“It’s a case of putting round pegs in round holes really,” explained Murphy, who makes it all sound so simple.
It makes you wonder where Town, who remain 12th in the table, might have been had they switched to three centre-backs earlier in the season.
Only once did the Midlanders, who were under the guidance of Jimmy Mullen after Richard Money’s resignation as manager earlier in the week, really threaten.
That was in the 69th minute, when former Barnsley midfielder Kevin Betsy brought a good save from Matt Glennon with a well-struck shot from the edge of the area.
Mullen strung five across the centre to match Town, but in a slow burner of a match, the home team – with James Berrett back in the holding role and Jon Worthington, who returned from suspension, tackling as though his life depended on it – were far more effective.
They had the lion’s share of the possession, and chances.
While Walsall’s three first-half efforts, from Michael Dobson, Alex Nicholls and Betsy, all went wide, their goalkeeper Clayton Ince pulled off three decent saves before finally being beaten.
First the Trinidad and Tobago international denied Booth as he headed goalwards from Joe Skarz’s 31st-minute cross (the 18-year-old was preferred to Robbie Williams at left wing-back).
Less than 60 seconds later, he reached high to pluck Rob Page’s long-range effort out of the air.

Video kids get into the groove

immediately fuse that with found footage.
Layering the live projection with the raw footage on screen, the video duo uses a mixer to key in, fade, burn out and otherwise affect the video, partly as eye candy and partly as an illustrated exchange of ideas.
It’s an ethic borrowed from DJ land, which benefits from stock and gathered footage, plus the wide swath of reference that the Internet brings. While DJs find audible beats, Watson and Elie are looking for a kind of visual rhythm.
At Lila you’ll see classic Bollywood films, stills from the movie Baraka, footage of Horra’s mother wrapping a sari and anything from their bank.
When not working at their respective day jobs (high school art educator and graphic designer), Elie and Watson bounce around the city, filming the bridges to Quebec from a moving car, or documenting the goings-on of an hour at the graffiti wall at the old Technical High School to use in their projections.
You would have seen work by the University of Ottawa grads at the National Gallery Artsparks event, at Tungda Browne shows (Elie is the band’s guitarist) or through Artengine events such as the Public Art Conspiracy in 2005, which saw images projected onto the exterior walls of York Street in the ByWard Market.
For their clubbier events, they have to react on a dime to the room’s sound and mood. Crowd connection is a huge motivator. Asked how they know that they’ve hit their stride, Watson and Elie wax wild about real-time interpretations and “resonance.”
Horra calls it live art: “You can bring the present moment into your footage — so you get that feeling. You know what you’re seeing is what is happening right now.” Filmed, projected, transmuted and translated, your club experience will be part Truman Show and part tricked-out surveillance, making it strangely compelling and just a bit trippy. VCR’t plays at the multi-media art event Lila, taking place tomorrow and

With the season finale of Rock of Love 2 up and coming, fans just can’t wait to see who Bret Michaels will choose between the thirty-something-year-old Ambre and 25-year-old Daisy, who admittedly still lives with her ex-boyfriend. In the last episode of the VH1 reality dating series, we saw Bret Michaels get some quality time with the final three women and a few of their relatives. Destiney’s father had the time of his life when Bret gave him a little ride on Bret’s Harley. However, when it came to elimination time, it was Destiney who had to pack her bags and walk away.
VH1 recently sat down with Destiney to talk about the relationships she had with the girls in the house and her entire experience with Bret Michaels on Rock of Love 2.
During the competition, Destiney’s honesty caught the attention of viewers, making them think that she was too "real for reality TV." In fact, this became more evident when she got into a conflict with Kristy Joe.
"The response I’ve been getting from a lot of people…came from me giving Kristy Joe so much s***," Destiney said in talking about her straightforward attitude when it came to Kristy Joe. "I got a lot of negative feedback, but you know, I don’t have a problem with her at all. The situation of being on a reality show makes you act in ways you normally wouldn’t."
While other women would easily fall into that certain emotional situation, Destiney thought twice before letting her feelings get the best of her. Despite landing a spot on the final three, she was not as in love with Bret Michaels as the other women were.
"When Daisy and Ambre came to me before my elimination to tell me that they were really in love with him, I saw their passion for him. I didn’t share that with them," she admitted. Moreover, she believed that the time constraint factored in her lack of emotions for Bret.

REVERED NOT REVILED

Looking at these images, you wonder about the child’s future – that is, if she can survive.
Gradually your thoughts drift to the baby’s parents.
How would they be feeling?
Pretty sad and concerned, you think.
Far from it, the parents of the girl born with four eyes, two mouths and two heads think their newborn daughter is simply a deity incarnated.
It is not just them.
The people in the rural Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, 50km north east of New Delhi, are not ashamed of this extraordinary looking girl.
The villagers claim she is the incarnation of the Hindu God Ganesha – who has an elephant head – and celebrated her arrival with clapping, cheering and offerings of gifts and money.
Her parents are yet to name the girl, who was born three weeks ago. They have ruled out surgery to correct the deformity.
‘At first I was a little bit afraid,’ Mr Vinod Kumar Singh, the 24-year-old father of the girl, told ABC News. ‘But then I accepted whatever God gives.’
This is not the first case of a deformed child being looked upon as an incarnation of the divine in India.
A few months ago, the media reported the case of a toddler born with eight limbs in northern India’s Bihar state.
The girl, Lakshmi Tatma, was born joined to a ‘parasitic twin’.
In November, she underwent a 27-hour operation by 30 surgeons in Bangalore to remove two of her useless arms and legs.
In India’s rural villages where people have low literacy levels, it is surprising that deformed children are not reviled.
Instead, they are revered.
In the case of the girl with two faces, villagers flocked to her home to touch her feet, dance at her bedside and offer the family money.
‘It’s a gift of God. Some people say she is like a goddess. They call the baby a face of a goddess,’ Mr Harsharan Singh, the village math teacher, told ABC News.

Meatballs 2

Jennifer Lopez pooped two newborns out of her baby hole this week. How exciting! Marc Anthony has been wanting kids since he ate the couple’s secret baby last spring.
Seriously. Doesn’t he look weird enough to eat a baby? Possibly two?
Look at the below photo and pretend Marc Anthony is speaking to you about his favorite cuisine.
“Oh hello. Yes. It is me. Marc Anthony. I love pizza. Chicago Style. Thick Crust. Butjooknow what else I like? Babies. I know. I know. It’s a little surprising. Jennifer just had a couple new meatballs. I will eat them. But not before a good strong marinade is applied over several days time. I will use a Paul Newman dressing because charity eeees emportant.”
Andy Juett Handles the Paparazzi
J-Lo. Lindsey. Britney Spears. Listen Up. You’ve got a lot to learn when it comes to handling the paparazzi. Let me help you.
#1 Don’t get a latte more than 30 times a day. It gives the paparazzi a chance to catch you itching your taint or catching an angle where it looks like you might be kissing Zac Efron at a club. If you haven’t purchased a personal home barista system yet, throw down a grand and make it happen. You’re filthy rich. You need a barista like Snoop needs a weed man at the airport. Again, these are issues that money CAN solve. Coffee is available in the home.
#2 When you are going to be traveling anywhere at all in a vehicle OR you might be sitting down, WEAR UNDERWEAR. It keeps the camera from drinking in your poonany extravaganza on the Internet. You have to realize that paparazzi photographers are VOYEURS either literally or metaphorically right? So, it might be best to put a proverbial “drop cloth” in FRONT of the meat curtains so that peeping Tom doesn’t get digital of your hoo-hah.
Oh yeah. Stars that are waning and need some attention, you might want to NOT WEAR UNDERWEAR and make some headlines for once. Are you listening Tiffany Amber Thiessen?
#3 Stop dating other stars. Can one of you please fuck the hot mechanic? Seriously. For America. Show us that you aren’t a vacuous overstuffed botox bomb by giving that math teacher a throw. Release a photograph of you pawing at the local construction worker and watch your Farrah Fawcett flag fly. Keep hope alive for that really well adjusted post office worker that you might come in, buy a booklet of stamps and make a regrettable decision that involves your hand on the mailman’s junk. You being seen with Wilmer Valderamma is just hilarious at this point.
#4 Your dog sucks. I’m talking to you, Paris Hilton. Your pooch itself is not the problem. The dilemma remains the transporting of a dog in a bag that’s worth more than the Gross Domestic Product of Laos. Do you have a Louis Vuitton laundry basket to carry your dirties to the wash? Don’t answer that. Bags are cool. I get it. But your making the dog into a freak show that they didn’t buy a ticket to. PETA, speak up here.
#5 Do MINIMAL drugs. If you like the feeling of euphoria and general bliss, try not to do more smack than a horse would if it had hands. Get a nutritionist. You can pay for it. Let ‘em know that you might like to smoke a joint every once in a while and work that into the overall health system. It certainly works for Matthew McConaughey. The man is like a nude animatronic beefcake robot on a beach playing bongos and smoking dope 24/7. Two weeks ago he was in the number one movie in the country. The man gets more ass than 1991 Jordan Knight. Male or female.
I am amazed that you didn’t use “meat taco” or “hatchet wound” under the gross and offensive banner of euphemisms used for the “V-J-J” (a term Oprah has actually used). Next time do a little research man! Punk up and talk to a friend who really likes hiding their love for an object under obscure words which relate to said object. I think you have found an entirely new thread of merriment and thought provoking comedy.
How can you be so insensitive about the Latino people? Do you really think all Latinos speak that way? Marc Anthony speaks and sings using better English than you, Mr. Juett. Whether or not he eats babies is another subject to be discussed at a later time. I can assure you, however, that if he does indeed eat babies, he does so without your cheap Latino dialect.
I am surprised at you, Mr. Juett. Let the poor man go about his baby eating day without your snide commentary on his language skills.
Stop the Latino hate, Mr. Juett. Can’t we all just get along?

Gears Of War 2 Trailer

Where to go after San Andreas? To make matters even worse for Rockstar Games, it’s the next-gen debut of GTA; to say expectations are virtually insurmountable would be a monumental understatement. Still, it seems Rockstar North is supremely confident of re-inventing the open-world experience they established on the last generation of consoles, arguably the most noteworthy genre of that era.
Having recently attended a demonstration at Rockstar’s London office, TVG had a chance to sit down and check out the return of GTA, the first time it’s been out and about since last year’s delay.
Perhaps realising the daunting prospect of delivering the goods after San Andreas, the decision to base GTA4 squarely in one location with a return to Liberty City met with a few puzzled looks upon the game’s unveiling. Certainly at TVG we were left pining for long-distance haulage trips across the county whilst listening to ‘Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man’, or taking a trip in the skies above and parachuting from San Andreas’ depiction of Library Tower.
So with this weight of potential disappointment, Rockstar’s finest set to work on easing our doubts, and if the latest build is anything to go by, we’re pretty sure we’ll be celebrating the re-invention of GTA in April. Faced with a barrage of GTA wannabes and the forthcoming release of Saints Row 2, Rockstar North decided from the start of the project to pull apart and scrutinise each of the pieces that shape the GTA mould, so that no one particular feature defines what GTA4 is all about. The plan is that each of these components will come together to create a cohesive, compelling experience, that’s most of all fun to play. Embracing the RAGE engine and NaturalMotion’s Euphoria physics-based animation technology, GTA4 is certainly looking up to the job, undoubtedly the best open-world videogame we’ve seen on the next-gen.
This approach has also meant the complete removal of irrelevant details such as expanding waistlines, stamina levels, and other such cosmetic touches that were featured in San Andreas. Although we quite enjoyed such elements it seems the general consensus was that such options diluted the experience needlessly.
Beginning in the Broker Docks - Rockstar’s interpretation of Brooklyn - our demonstration commenced with a mission titled ‘Search & Delete’. The simple premise being that Niko has to whack a police informer; the challenge involving the hijack of a LCPD cop-car to access the police database and track the target down. Travelling through Liberty City in search of a cop car gave us an opportunity to once again appreciate the microscopic level of detail Rockstar North has poured into this re-worked game world. Focussing on a smaller scale from San Andreas has afforded the studio the opportunity to increase the density immensely, whether it’s civilians, traffic, skyscrapers, or rubbish, bringing the most realistic interpretation of a city we’ve seen in a videogame to date. No longer do civilians shuffle through the same old animation sequences, instead taking time to eat, shop, and generally do what people do in the real world.
Eventually coming across a police car, Niko’s attempts to loose the pursuing chase once again reminded of us of the vast changes Rockstar North has implemented to the Wanted system. There’s probably no need to recap over this feature, suffice to say the setup provides a significantly different experience to any GTA (or GTA clone) that’s come before, bringing real world application to the getaway. Worth mentioning is the dynamic chatter we heard over the police CBs, describing the pursuit and Niko’s direction according to police cars that were in close proximity - it’s the little details that mean so much!
The police database is activated by searching for a surname or by uploading a photo from Niko’s phone. Niko’s phone also doubles up as an MP3 player, carrying the contemporary soundtrack to the streets whenever you step outside of a vehicle (and yes, Rockstar North have borrowed Saint’s Row’s positional sound system). We also noticed the phone’s signal dropping throughout the demonstration, suggesting Niko may miss out on phone calls when he’s travelling on the subway. Liberty City’s chain of TW@T internet cafes promises to work in much the same way, bringing e-mail and the web to Niko’s vast repertoire of communication. This demonstration highlighted how Rockstar North are moving the mission structure away from linear dots on a map to drive between, instead offering something far more dynamic, when things happen almost on the spur of the moment. GTA4 also features an auto-save system, which takes place between missions and during the game. Marking an end to one of the most frustrating elements of previous games in the series, we just hope it doesn’t make it all a bit too easy.
Accessing the target’s record and putting a handy indicator on the mini-map, Niko’s attempts to gun down his target revealed the considerable improvements that Rockstar North is adding to combat and action. The introduction of a covering system may not be entirely revolutionary given the likes of Gears of War and Rainbow Six Vegas, but its implementation in GTA is nevertheless most welcome. Rolling and diving for cover fits naturally within the context of the game, it’s one of those changes that will make you question why they never had it in previous titles and make it almost entirely impossible to go back. Another contentious issue for GTA surrounds the auto-targeting system; despite the various tweaks throughout the GTA3 trilogy, it seems Rockstar North has never been entirely happy with the results. This time around the setup seems tighter than ever before, a simple flick of the thumbstick specifically targeting the opponent’s head for a quick and simple death. The precise details behind this mechanic remain slightly fuzzy, and whether it works will have to wait until we actually get our hands on the game, though again we have some slight concerns as to whether it’s going to make things a tad too simple.
NaturalMotion’s Euphoria is also bringing a lot to the action in GTA4. Chucking a grenade amongst a group of goons demonstrates precisely what physics based animations bring to the experience, flying away with almost comic effect and creating a look and feel befitting a next-gen GTA.
Whilst the concept of Liberty City sounds like a significant downscale compared to San Andreas, Rockstar North have expanded upon the setting considerably. To give us some sense of the scale and scope on display, Rockstar flipped the map on-screen to give an indication of the little amount our demonstration had scratched upon - suffice to say, helicopter rides around town are a wise option if you’re in a hurry. For those who want an idea of how the new Liberty City map pans out, one avid GTA fan has discovered a split-second glimpse of it from the third trailer - kudos to whoever that is, you can find it on YouTube.
Focussing upon the ‘family’ with San Andreas, it seems as though ‘friendship’ is the theme behind GTA4. Arriving as an unknown, Niko’s entrance draws interesting parallels with the player, both lacking any knowledge of their new surroundings and about to forge a new life in Liberty City.
Establishing new alliances the friendship system is entirely dynamic. As Niko makes friends, they’ll phone him, ask him to do things, and generally like to hang out. Ignoring a phone call or cutting them off half way through will naturally irritate them, leading to further pestering phone calls and the risk of breaking the friendship and the benefits they bring. Of the characters seen so far, we know Niko’s cousin Roman and his taxi firm provides lifts around Liberty City; Little Jacob pulls up and delivers weapons on demand to Niko; whilst, Brucie - a new character revealed - provides additional trips around the town in his helicopter.
Throughout the game you’ll have the opportunity to call friends out on activities, such as a drink in the local bar or a trip to the ten-pin alley. We saw the former in action as Niko and Roman staggered out of a bar with the most convincing drunk effect this side of a Saturday night. Stumbling around and falling all over the place, attempting to drive whilst in this state captures the dangers of drink-driving perfectly (who says Rockstar isn’t responsible?) with a style that’s likely to leave you feeling slightly queasy. Rockstar assures us they’re looking at this to make sure it’s not too dramatic, and also the current day/night cycle that currently puts one Liberty City hour to two real world minutes. Although the drinking occurred instantaneously, we’re hoping there’s some enjoyable mini-games behind them in the final build.
Perhaps one of the most visually impressive touches is the enhancement made to the cinematic camera option. Prevalent in previous GTA titles, the ability to quickly switch to the cinematic camera without flicking through the various different shots means that what was essentially a useless feature now has a genuine purpose. From the able demonstrations of Rockstar’s driving skills it also appears that Rockstar North has tightened up the cinematic camera angles on offer, removing those that were completely unplayable, to ensure playing with funky camera positions is actually quite viable this time around. Highlighting a thankful end to the fixed 90 degree targeting that has typified GTA titles in the past when shooting from a vehicle, GTA4’s redesigned setup now finds Niko smashing out a window, whilst holding a gun outside that’s reminiscent of the golden oldie, Chase HQ. Using the right thumbstick to aim, whilst driving with the left, the new setup provides complete freedom and suggests a vast improvement to one of GTA’s weaker elements.
The second mission of the day, ‘Deconstruction for Beginners’, tasked Niko with wiping out the Mafia goons that are stopping the workers at a construction site owned by an influential Arab. Teaming up with a character known enigmatically as Playboy X, Niko’s mission begins from the roof of a nearby building. With a headset and weapons locked and loaded, Niko has to work his way through the construction site, whilst receiving dynamic instructions from Playboy X on the goons locations. It’s classic GTA action but the use of a headset, like many other things we saw, suggests a further level of distinctiveness and immersion that promises to characterise the game from start-to-finish.
The final demonstration of the day involved Niko hijacking a particular truck and delivering it back to the Mafia’s mansion in a mission entitled ‘Truck Hassle’. After working his way to the truck, Niko finds the vehicle jump into action and has to chase after it, on foot! Grasping upon the rear bumper, the action plays out as a mini-game of such, with rapid presses of the A button providing the impetus to lift his way onto the truck’s roof, then having to roll in the opposite direction to counter the driver’s attempts to swing him off. Arriving at the Mafia’s mansion revealed that Rockstar North hasn’t forgotten the old Liberty City entirely; a derelict mansion pays a very distinctive homage to the GTA3 design right down to the garages and tree-lined drive - hopefully we’ll find out more about its poor state of disrepair soon.
The demonstration concluded with a boat ride along the waterways of Liberty City. Words can’t describe the majesty of Liberty City’s cityscape at night, the sheer density, the reflection on the waters below glistening under the light of the moon. The deluge of little details on display in GTA4 promises to make the game a very special occasion; it truly is the little touches that help to define a next-gen experience. Beyond the elements we’ve already touched upon there’s aspects such as luxury cars fitted with GPS devices that instruct you where to go and toll booths that can either be paid or smashed through.
Towards the end of the demonstration a character known as Phil Bell was introduced, with the knowledge that he’s going to help Niko find that ’special someone’ - who could it be?
Despite seeing a lot, Rockstar are deliberately holding back on a lot of GTA4, fearing that they gave too much away in the lead-up to San Andreas release. Hinted at towards the end of the demonstration, Rockstar’s representatives teased towards the multiplayer options and claimed we’ll know more with the next build when it’s finally time for us to go Hands On with the behemoth that is GTA4 - hopefully we’ll also see the PS3 version in action.
On a final note, we also noticed a considerable number of planes dotting the Liberty City skyline, where’s Niko heading next?
The latest demonstration of GTA4 in action was more than enough to ease any fears we had, Rockstar North will re-invent the genre and finally push open world games to the next level. It's difficult to continue hyping the GTA series after so many successes, but we genuinely feel that Rockstar North will burst past the boundaries and set a new benchmark for all the others to follow.
