Model glad for TV show exposure

“I was never intimidated by the other girls,” she said. “I just went in each round and did what I know.”
Amy was seen on the reality TV show this season before being eliminated.
Melissa Jenkins of Bartlesville said she couldn’t have been more proud of her daughter.
“She went through a lot of auditions,” Melissa said. “She began in Topeka, Kan., then she went on to Chicago, then L.A. and finally to New York City.”
Melissa is originally from Muskogee and Amy’s uncle, Dice Dawson, still resides here.
While Amy’s stay was brief — she was the third girl to be eliminated from the reality TV show — she said she thought it was the right thing for her.
“I love being a regular girl who likes to eat cheesecake,” Amy said. “There is too much people-pleasing in the fashion industry.”
Amy said she thinks modeling is great, and she is grateful for the experience the show gave her.
“The experience was awesome, but it was really not what I wanted in my life — so much sacrifice in the name of looks,” she said.
Amy said it was especially hard to know what professional model and TV host Tyra Banks and the other judges wanted from her.
“We never saw them on a personal level,” she said. “What you see on camera, is the same as what we saw. We never interacted with them other than the judging. They were very fickle.”
Dawson said he is still pleased with her shot at the top.
“She’s had a good run — not bad for an Okie,” Dawson said.
Amy is now working on figuring out what she wants to do with the rest of her life.

The United Nations’ anti-drugs chief has attacked celebrities like singer Amy Winehouse and supermodel Kate Moss, saying they fuel problems in Africa by allegedly taking drugs.
Antonio Maria Costa, executive director of the UN’s Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), said some stars were sending out the wrong message on drugs, which he linked to violence and corruption.
He contrasted this approach with that of singers Bono and Bob Geldof, both campaigners against poverty in Africa, and stars who have worked against the blood diamond trade, highlighted in the 2006 film of the same name.
“While some glitterati are trying to save Africa, others are contributing to its demise,” Costa wrote in the Observer newspaper.
“Coke-snorting fashionistas are not only damaging their noses and their brains — they are contributing to state failure on the other side of the world.
“Amy Winehouse might adopt a defiant pose and slur her way through ‘Rehab’ (her hit single) but does she realise the message she sends to others who are vulnerable to addiction and who cannot afford expensive treatment?

Getting 'Lost' and loving it

Is it just me, or does it seem like the writers of “Lost” are coming up with more questions than they are answers?
Last night is a perfect example. While the show lacked the action and spookiness of previous episodes, it certainly dumped a whole new batch of questions on us.
Among the bigger ones:
How did Ben get off the island? And why is Sayid working for him now? And more importantly, who are he and Sayid after? Does this guy — “The Economist” — have something to do with the group of people from the freighter, or is he part of an entirely different operation?
What’s up with Miles, Daniel, Frank and Charlotte? Even though Naomi was told in her flashback last week that there were no survivors of the Oceanic crash, none of freighter people seemed surprised to see the Losties when they arrived on the island. And I don’t know about you, but I don’t trust any of them — except Frank. He seems the most honest of the group — even if he’s an alcoholic pilot.
Who’s Ben’s spy of the freighter? And why are the people on the freighter after Ben?
What’s the deal with the 31-minute time difference on the island that Daniel discovered during his little experiment?
