LEE COUNTY: Traps have been set after more possible coyote attacks against dogs in the Bonita Springs and Estero areas. The total is now at four attacks and three dogs are dead. We found some advice that can help keep your dog safe.
Monday night, Susan Love first thought what came out of some shrubs was just a big dog, something like a German shepherd. Now, she thinks what she saw was actually a coyote.
“I was screaming the whole time,” said Love.
Love was with her dog Keya and was actually dog sitting another named Millie.
“Keya went out to find the coyote. She went out to grab her neck and she backed up,” said Love.
“She was going to die for us - myself and the small dog,” said Love.
Officials with Florida Fish and Wildlife say when you are out walking your dog, make sure you carry a couple of things with you like a walking stick, a noise maker, and even a flash light. All of them can be used to help scare off a coyote.
“What’s unusual is this aggressiveness towards small dogs that are being walked by people,” said Gary Morse of FWC.
The attacks have been happening in and around Love’s Lighthouse Bay development. Now, there are warning signs around the development asking dog walkers to be alert.
“Be careful when you are out there. You should probably confine your walks to well lit areas and areas that don’t have any vegetation,” said Morse.
Morse says there are probably two coyotes in the woods - a mother and father trying to get food for their young. He says the close encounters could very well last another two to four weeks.
Until then, FWC will step up patrols and Love will be carrying something extra - a can of pepper spray.

“I SEE a little silhouetto of a man, scaramouche, scaramouche, will you do the fandango?”
Well done if you recognised that as a lyric from Queen’s perennial hit Bohemian Rhapsody, but what’s the next line?
If you’re now singing, “Thunderbolt and lightning, very very frightening, me,” maybe you should have a go at new gameshowDon’t Forget The Lyrics (Sky One, Sunday, 7pm).
The premise is pretty simple, each contestant on the show has to sing a string of well-known songs - but it’s probably best we let the show’s host Shane Richie explain.
“I’ve had to learn this parrot fashion,” he says with a beaming smile. “The punter comes on to sing with the live band, and the words come up on screen for them.
“Then when the band stops, the lyrics disappear.
“The first song’s worth £500, the second £1,000 and it goes up like that to £250,000. It gets harder; you start having to know maybe three words, then you have to know nine or 10 in the later rounds.
“You get nine categories on the board, rock, pop, divas, 60s, 70s, and so on, and behind each category is a choice of two songs.
“So you choose a category, then a song, then you get to sing along with the live band.
“The musos in the band are amazing too.
“Some of them play for Amy Winehouse, others are in David Jordan’s band, so there are some great musicians on the show, absolutely first class.”
As a former holiday camp Blue Coat, and the star of various stage musicals, you might expect Shane to be a dab hand at the game himself, but he admits to being as clueless as some of the contestants, mainly due to the pressure of being in front of a live studio audience.

Before the widespread return to ‘cultural’ lyrics in the 1990s, Admiral Tibet was the most consistently conscious singer of his age and widely regarded as the first cultural singer of the deejay-dominated period.
Born Kennel Allen in the parish of St Mary, as a young child growing up, he always had a keen interest in music. He started performing on sound systems in and around his vicinity at a tender age.
In 1985, Tibet did his first recording for producer Sherman Clacher, entitled Babylon War, giving him recognition locally and internationally. Another single, Leave People Business, was an instant hit, followed by Serious Time, which was later remixed with two-time Grammy winner Shabba Ranks and the Don Gorgon Ninjaman.
The track featured then rivals Ninjaman and Shabba Ranks and was employed to signal reconciliation between the two deejays in the early ’90s.
Tibet’s lyrics, delivered with a convincing, vulnerable quality, are as true today as they were when first delivered. Admiral Tibet has toured extensively in the United States, Europe, Japan and the Caribbean.
The Sunday Gleaner caught up with the artiste recently.
Sunday Gleaner: How did you get the name?
Admiral Tibet: I was going primary school and my cousin, both of us were sitting together looking into an atlas, and saw the name ‘Tibet’. My cousin took it as a mockery and seh ‘Tibet! Tibet!’ and it stuck - that was in the 1970s.
Admiral came on in the 1980s when a friend of mine asked me ’bout my stage name. Him seh Tibet kinda lonely and others have long names, so I’m the ‘Admiral’.
Did you always want to do music?
Well, definitely, from I realise miself and start have sense, mi realise that mi love music.
Did you ever get any formal training?

immediately fuse that with found footage.
Layering the live projection with the raw footage on screen, the video duo uses a mixer to key in, fade, burn out and otherwise affect the video, partly as eye candy and partly as an illustrated exchange of ideas.
It’s an ethic borrowed from DJ land, which benefits from stock and gathered footage, plus the wide swath of reference that the Internet brings. While DJs find audible beats, Watson and Elie are looking for a kind of visual rhythm.
At Lila you’ll see classic Bollywood films, stills from the movie Baraka, footage of Horra’s mother wrapping a sari and anything from their bank.
When not working at their respective day jobs (high school art educator and graphic designer), Elie and Watson bounce around the city, filming the bridges to Quebec from a moving car, or documenting the goings-on of an hour at the graffiti wall at the old Technical High School to use in their projections.
You would have seen work by the University of Ottawa grads at the National Gallery Artsparks event, at Tungda Browne shows (Elie is the band’s guitarist) or through Artengine events such as the Public Art Conspiracy in 2005, which saw images projected onto the exterior walls of York Street in the ByWard Market.
For their clubbier events, they have to react on a dime to the room’s sound and mood. Crowd connection is a huge motivator. Asked how they know that they’ve hit their stride, Watson and Elie wax wild about real-time interpretations and “resonance.”
Horra calls it live art: “You can bring the present moment into your footage — so you get that feeling. You know what you’re seeing is what is happening right now.” Filmed, projected, transmuted and translated, your club experience will be part Truman Show and part tricked-out surveillance, making it strangely compelling and just a bit trippy. VCR’t plays at the multi-media art event Lila, taking place tomorrow and

Who said the following, and in what movie? (Yes, we’re out to drive you crazy)
Don’t you just hate it when you can almost remember something, but then it slips away? And then it nags at you until you get it settled? Well, we’re here to create that experience for you.
Here’s a quote from a movie that was popular sometime in the past 100 years. You can figure out which movie it is, or you can just keep whispering the words to yourself all day long trying to link them to something. (And yes, we know you could just Google it, but that’s a little something we call "not in the spirit of the challenge.")
"I’ll be in the neighborhood later on, and I was wondering if maybe you wanted to get some frozen yogurt, or perhaps a whole meal of food, if that would be agreeable."

Govt. desperately tries to get staple food from neighbouring countries as CoL soars beyond planets
Hitherto united JVP plunged into Maha-Wansa battle
By Our Political Editor
It seems a strange co-incidence. Leaders of different political hues are trapped in crisis of disturbing proportions as another national New Year dawns today. For the Government and its leaders, the woes are too many. Mounting living costs brought in gloom for most homes this week. Shops and markets drew smaller crowds. Inter-monsoonal rains caused havoc to the rice harvest. Finding rice from abroad at lower prices, especially for the National New Year, was akin to looking for rice from the moon. World food stocks are not that plenty for any one country to draw like that. As the saying goes; stocks were not available ‘for love or money’.
Last week, a Government dignitary was so desperate that he pleaded with an Asian rice producing country to agree at least on paper to sell Sri Lanka 100,000 tons of rice. It did not matter if a smaller quantity was actually delivered, they were told by the Sri Lankan government official. If people cannot be fed on rice, they could stomach propaganda, the freely available commodity in Sri Lanka, seems the moral of the story. The coming weeks will see a further fuel price hike, not to mention further hikes in milk food and gas prices.
Just two weeks ago, President Mahinda Rajapaksa took the unprecedented step of summoning field commanders prosecuting the war in the Wanni. In a bid to find out reasons for delays and reported high casualties in the light of heavy expenditure, he asked questions and made notes personally. Significant enough, that move saw him take personal control of the war effort - the Government’s top priority issue. In the aftermath of last Sunday’s dastardly killing of Highways Minister and his confidante, Jeyaraj Fernandopulle, President Rajapaksa vowed again to defeat terrorism.

With the season finale of Rock of Love 2 up and coming, fans just can’t wait to see who Bret Michaels will choose between the thirty-something-year-old Ambre and 25-year-old Daisy, who admittedly still lives with her ex-boyfriend. In the last episode of the VH1 reality dating series, we saw Bret Michaels get some quality time with the final three women and a few of their relatives. Destiney’s father had the time of his life when Bret gave him a little ride on Bret’s Harley. However, when it came to elimination time, it was Destiney who had to pack her bags and walk away.
VH1 recently sat down with Destiney to talk about the relationships she had with the girls in the house and her entire experience with Bret Michaels on Rock of Love 2.
During the competition, Destiney’s honesty caught the attention of viewers, making them think that she was too "real for reality TV." In fact, this became more evident when she got into a conflict with Kristy Joe.
"The response I’ve been getting from a lot of people…came from me giving Kristy Joe so much s***," Destiney said in talking about her straightforward attitude when it came to Kristy Joe. "I got a lot of negative feedback, but you know, I don’t have a problem with her at all. The situation of being on a reality show makes you act in ways you normally wouldn’t."
While other women would easily fall into that certain emotional situation, Destiney thought twice before letting her feelings get the best of her. Despite landing a spot on the final three, she was not as in love with Bret Michaels as the other women were.
"When Daisy and Ambre came to me before my elimination to tell me that they were really in love with him, I saw their passion for him. I didn’t share that with them," she admitted. Moreover, she believed that the time constraint factored in her lack of emotions for Bret.

Forty years ago today Martin Luther King was assassinated and the greatest champion of non-violence since Gandhi was lost to the world. David Williamson goes in search of a man who dreamed of a revolution which remains unfinished
MARTIN LUTHER KING is a saint with a soundbite. His four most famous words – “I have a dream” – are etched in the memory and imagination of millions.
But the man was a much more complicated figure – a more interesting and relevant figure – than the campaigner we can glimpse in grainy newsreel footage.
Shortly before he delivered his most famous speech in 1963, he addressed a gathering of about 1,000 students at Harvard. A young man who would one day become First Minister of Wales sat in the audience.
Rhodri Morgan remembers the occasion vividly.
He said, “Maybe it was the type of audience, but it was a very academic and somewhat unemotional lecture, linking theology and political theory. Charismatic it was not.
“Months after I left the USA, he addressed the 400,000-strong non-student throng in the Washington DC March for Jobs and Freedom. Now that was charismatic. It ranks alongside Lincoln’s Gettysburg address and Winston Churchill’s Blood, Sweat, Toil and Tears address to the British people as the finest speech ever delivered in the English language.
“Sadly, he did not live to see his American dream of equality fulfilled. There was a wave of assassinations of American leaders committed to social change and social equality in the mid-1960s – John F Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X and Medgar Evers were all gunned down.
“If you raised your head above the parapet in the cause of freedom in the America of the 1960s, you put your life on the line.
“What would Martin Luther King have achieved if he had not been gunned down in his prime? Sadly we will never know.”
