No, it’s not one of your favorite classic rock bands staging a reunion..and it’s not a special off-season game of the NFL’s Chargers, who do call this venue home…
What we are talking about here is an event on June 4 which is going to break a record set only last year, an all-time attendance record for any soccer match ever held in the local San Diego area.
The world’s number one ranked senior men’s team - ARGENTINA - is coming to Qualcomm, and they are bringing along their 2007 World Player of the Year runner-up, Lionel Messi.  They will be playing MEXICO in San Diego’s Mission Valley, on the same day, by the way that the USA will be in SPAIN for their own friendly.
All regular tickets have been sold out, and the anticipation is that additional seating made available over last year’s record breaking-crowd for MEXICO v VENEZUELA will set a new mark for attendance for soccer in the region.  The soccer configuration - with a wider playing surface than for the NFL, and other factors taken into  consideration - does mean there are fewer seats available than for a standard NFL game, but the place will be packed, and the rafters will be rocking…with a pro-Mexico local contingent.
Even though the audience will be overwhelmingly in favor of Mexico, Argentina are the team who dominate the match-up historically.  Messi, their true superstar who plays his club ball for Barcelona, placed second in the voting behind Kaka for last year’s FIFA World Footballer of the Year.  He is on the roster, as well as numerous other players well-known around the world.  Several of their top stars preparing for Wednesday hail from the 2008 Spanish League Champion club Real Madrid, and the Italian Serie A 2008 Champions Inter Milan.
The City of San Diego actually borders Mexico, so many ticketholders will be coming across, joining tailgaters and other spectators in an all-day celebratory atmosphere.

THIS horrifying picture shows the moment a US man apparently drunk and asleep ploughed into cyclists on a bike race - killing one and injuring at least 10 others.
Driver Juan Campos, 28, was charged with killing Alejandro Alvarez, 37, along the highway near the US-Mexico border.
Authorities said the wreck happened 15 minutes into the 34km race yesterday between Playa Bagdad and Matamoros, across from Brownsville, Texas.
Campos, who police claimed was drunk and asleep during the incident, said he was an American citizen living in Brownsville. The US Consulate could not immediately confirm that.
"We are looking into the incident in terms of whether American citizens were involved," consulate spokesman Todd Huizinga said.
With so many dedicated venues available, why would cyclists want to mix it with vehicles?? http://www.sydneyolympicpark.com.au/Visiting/recreational_activities/cycling "Cyclists Racing Cyclists Sydney Olympic Park offers an extensive network of quality on-road cycle lanes. These cycle lanes provide adequate room on smooth surfaced well maintained and low trafficked roads outside event times. All cycle lanes are well marked and signposted to Australian Standards. Recreational Cyclists An extensive network of shared pathways throughout the Parklands provides many opportunites for exploration by bicycle. The shared pathways provide pleasant scenery and attractions away from the traffic and are accessible to facilities such as playgrounds, taps and toilets." ………..why indeed?

"All participants must feel that their right to safety is ensured and the wonderful sense of security that all Australians know as their normal existence is maintained."- yes Patrick , quite right too- now dwell for a minute on the plight of the poor bloody pedestrians in this city being driven off the footpaths by selfish, borderline psychopaths riding bicycles illegally (and sometimes legally) on the footpaths. And by the way, that highway is a 110 kph zone (I used to live near it) and peddling on it under any circumstances would be dangerous.

MEXICO, Mo. - The Jefferson City Jays got another good pitching performance Tuesday en route to an 11-0 win over Mexico in six innings.
“It was an outstanding performance by Cole McCubbin,” said Jays coach Bob Coons, as McCubbin went the distance and allowed only four hits while striking out three and walking two.
“He changed speeds well and kept (Mexico) off stride.”
The Jays (3-5) took a 4-0 lead in the third inning before tacking on two runs in the fourth.
Eli Beck led Jefferson City with two hits and three RBI, while Cody Evers had a double and drove in two runs.
Jeremy Geist drove in two runs on sacrifice flies for the Jays, who won their second straight game after starting the season 1-5.
“We're doing some things well offensively,” Coons said. “We didn't have a ton of hits (tonight). But we're moving baserunners and starting to do things as a team.”
Jefferson City tacked on a run in the fifth inning, before scoring four times in the sixth to end the game by the 10-run rule.
The Jays will open up the Capital City Invitational at noon Friday against Rockhurst at Vivion Field.
“We're looking forward to this weekend,” Coons said of the tournament, which features two state-ranked teams. “We'll see what we're made of.”

The property is the subject of a joint venture between Tarsis, the underlying option holder, and International KRL Resources (TSX.V:IRK), who is earning up to a 60% interest by spending CA$3 million in exploration over the next four years, and issuing 1 million shares of KRL stock to Tarsis.
The property was discovered in 1983 by Regional Resources Ltd. (later Fairfield) and initial
work consisted of prospecting, geochemical surveys, mapping, road construction, induced polarization surveys and excavator trenching. A trenching program (2,712 m) in 1988 tested two parallel zones of coincident soil geochemical and IP (Induced Polarization) anomalies, which are referred to as the North and South zones.
An Induced Polarization survey is a geophysical prospecting method that measures the responses of electrical currents passing between two or more points. The resulting data is interpreted to indicate characteristics associated with various mineral deposit types.
This trenching uncovered silver, lead and zinc bearing-iron and manganese oxides over widths of up to 30 metres, along a strike length of 1 km in the North zone. Sample values include a four-metre chip sample averaging 352.4 g/t silver and 9.12% lead from trench #3 and grab samples from trench #1 valued at 1248.1 g/t silver, 49.50% lead and 978.7 g/t silver and 32% lead. A diamond drill program was recommended at that time but never carried out.
The Wolf property hosts an untested IP geophysical anomaly that could indicate polarisable sulphide mineralization like the nearby Silvertip Pb-Zn-Ag deposit. The IP anomaly reflects a zone consisting of a narrow tail indicated to be 800 m long and 50m to 100m wide, that extends northwest from a main zone indicated to be at least 700 m long and up to 500 m wide.
The main body is open to the east. The zone occurs at interpreted depths of 50 m to 100 m. The tail coincides with an oxide zone, up to 30 m wide, which returned 4 m of 352.4 g/t Ag and 9.12% Pb in a trench. Grab samples of oxide mineralization from another trench returned 1248.1 g/t Ag and 49.5% Pb and 978.7 g/t Ag and 32% Pb. “The IP anomaly indicates potentially wider zones of un-oxidized (fresh) sulphides in the tail at depth and a potential very large volume of sulphides in the main zone.”, according to International KRL.
